Any early Christians would be prone to misunderstand the idea of ransom, without the narrative understanding of a heroic act to deliberate a people to freedom.

And justification, is not that the prodigal son was forgiven by his father, with a price paid. The father had always loved the prodigal son, had never counted his wrong doings, and had never demanded to be paid back. Justification is that the son realized that his is free to go home, and enjoy the father's love and countenance -- that is receiving his peaceful status in the father's house. I think Tom Wright is wrong on this.
